Organized Crime and Institutional Erosion in Latin America

Event Description

Latin American countries are beset by increasingly sophisticated international criminal organizations that create and occupy power vacuums within the state through violence and infiltration. This violence is one of the main drivers of forced migration in the region. Public policy has failed in addressing these issues, exacerbating the problems experienced by the region’s population. The Latinx in Public Policy Working Group is plans to organize a series of events aimed at promoting awareness of this issue at the University of California.

As we recognize that this event will be touching on topics that invoke harmful lived experiences, a facilitator from the Center for Empowerment of Immigrants and Refugees will conduct a wellness workshop, via Zoom, before and after the talk.
