CLACS relies on donations from our community to support student research in the field, provide access to Latin American languages, and host free events for the broader community.
Federal cuts threaten the future of research.
The U.S. Department of Education recently terminated two federal grants that have provided our students with essential support for decades. These unexpected cuts significantly reduce the resources CLACS relies on to fund field research, language study, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Since 1965, CLACS has supported graduate students and faculty conducting transformative research across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Today, that work is at risk.
At a moment when understanding Latin America and the Caribbean is more urgent than ever, funding for scholarly research is vanishing.
We are asking our community to help sustain the fellowships, field research grants, working groups, and public programs that make this work possible.
- A donation of $100 covers research materials for a graduate student working group.
-
$500 supports bringing a Latin American or Caribbean expert to campus.
-
$1,000 funds a student’s travel to Latin America for dissertation field research.
Whatever you can give, your support will extend far beyond Berkeley — into classrooms, policy spaces, cultural institutions, and communities throughout the Americas.
With gratitude,
The CLACS Team
