Synopsis
An American backpacker’s drug tour of Chile takes an unexpected turn when he invites a new-age compatriot, Crystal Fairy, along on a quest to find the hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus. The two spar throughout the trip, but a mescaline-induced breakthrough comes on a remote beach at the edge of the desert. Winner of the World Cinema Directing Award for Drama at the Sundance Film Festival. 99 minutes. English and Spanish with subtitles.
“As the closing credits role, we’re left not with a sense of a day at the beach, but of what might be swimming out there, in the dark of the abyss.” — Michael O’Sullivan, The Washington Post
