Abstract:
Examining the struggle to get pandemic supplies to caregivers in Latin America, Cassandra M. Sweet traces one source of difficulty as the "root of the region’s supply fragility is its distinctly import-dependent structure, with scant basic pharmaceutical production, heavy generics concentration, and nascent biopharmaceutical capabilities." Latin American countries are reliant on the world market in times of crisis, and other countries prioritize their own citizenry and higher-paying customers.
