Abstract:
Chile was facing pressures for change even before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Huge protests from October 2019 onward were temporarily muted by the crisis, but returned and led to a process of constitutional reform that is ongoing. Public health expert Claudio Méndez reviews how those crises have intersected, and the progress in addressing both the constitutional and health policy challenges Chile faces.
