Abstract:
Professor Kirsten Sehnbruch looks back on the historic presidency of Chile’s Michelle Bachelet.
Michelle Bachelet’s place in Latin America’s history books is assured. When she was sworn into office on March 11, 2006, she became Chile’s first female president and the first popularly elected Latin American woman president who did not follow a politically prominent husband into office. Equally remarkable was the success and stability of the coalition that she led to a fourth consecutive victory.
