The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies provides small amounts of funding for public seminars, lectures, cultural events, and conferences.

Overview

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies provides small amounts of funding for public seminars, lectures, cultural events, and conferences.

Events must be organized by students, faculty, staff, or researchers affiliated with the university, must take place on campus (or virtually, hosted by a Berkeley account), and must be open to the public. Funds can be used towards honoraria, technical expenses, production costs, space rental, and/or transportation (food/refreshments are not allowed).

Eligibility: UC Berkeley students, faculty, lecturers, and staff from all disciplinary fields are welcome to apply. Events should have significant Latin American and/or Caribbean content. Annual meetings are not eligible events.

Funding Amounts: $100-500 for lectures and up to $1000 for large conferences, events, or visits. All funds must be spent by the last day of the semester.

Winning projects will receive CLACS funds, publicity, and some support in event organization, administration, and production. Event organizers are involved in organizing the event as well.

Application & Review Process

To apply for funding, please complete the below form. Questions can be directed to clacs@berkeley.edu

Applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the planned event date (but can be submitted earlier).

Review Process: Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until funds are no longer available.

Conference and Event Procedures

Event organizers will sign an agreement that lays out the responsibilities of CLACS and of the organizers. CLACS can provide funding, publicity, and, occasionally, limited event production. CLACS will transfer funds to the organizer's home department, and the home department MSO must sign the the agreement along with the organizers.
