Abstract:
What is responsible for the floristic diversity patterns we see in the Amazon basin? We explore an economically important and readily abundant palm species, Oenocarpus bataua to understand if its genetic structuring and nutritional variation between location and habitats might shed some light onto how it has managed to become the 7th most abundant tree in the Amazon basin. Other Oenocarpus species which vary from being abundant to very rare are also sampled, to provide an evolutionary lens through to understand the differences observed inter-and intra-specifically.
