Julie Chávez Rodríguez, who graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Latin American Studies in 2000, was named to lead the 2024 Biden presidential campaign.
While she was an undergraduate, Chávez Rodríguez was a volunteer at the ground-breaking 1998 CLAS conference Alternatives for the Americas, which brought together such participants as the then-little known Vicente Fox, a Mexican governor, and a junior member of the U.S. congress from San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi.
She becomes the first Latinx woman to run the campaign of an incumbent president.
