Event Description
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies invited community members to kick off the 2025 Latin American Studies Association Congress in San Francisco with an end-of-year reception. This gathering space was an opportunity to connect informally and build community with Latin Americanist and Caribbeanist students and faculty from UC Berkeley and beyond.
Prior to the reception, a special book launch of The Tomb of the Divers, the debut novel from Professor Emerita of Spanish and Portuguese Francine Masiello, was held. Comments from Berkeley alumni—Anna Deeny (Georgetown University), Sebastião Macedo (UC Berkeley), Sarah Moody (University of Alabama), and Pedro Rolón (UC Berkeley)—were shared, highlighting Masiello’s significant impact and contributions to the field of Latin American Studies.
