Award-winning novelist Gabriela Cabezón Cámara will discuss her latest novel and more-than-human worlds. She will be joined in conversation by Luisina Gentile and Natalia Brizuela.
Speakers
Gabriela Cabezón Cámara is an Argentine writer born in 1968. She has worked selling insurance in the streets, delivering bread, data entry, editing a newspaper’s culture page, and teaching creative writing. A social and environmental activist, her publications include the novels Slum Virgin and Le viste la cara a Dios, as well as the novella Romance de la Negra Rubia. Her novel The Adventures of China Iron was shortlisted for the 2020 International Booker Prize. The French translation was shortlisted for the 2021 Prix Médicis in a Foreign Language. Her most recent novel, We Are Green and Trembling, won the 2024 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize. Her work has been translated into fifteen languages.
Natalia Brizuela is the Class of 1930 Chair of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and a Professor in the Departments of Film & Media and Spanish & Portuguese at UC Berkeley.
Luisina Gentile is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Berkeley.
