People, Palm Trees, and Survival

Humans rely heavily on palm trees for food and fiber. Tarek Milleron focuses on wild palm fruit harvests in northern South America, where long traditions of climbing have given way to cutting down whole trees, wiping out the resource in local areas.

Tarek E. Milleron, Ph.D., is a forest ecologist who has worked on wild palm fruit harvests in Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela.
