Jair Jáuregui Torres is a Ph.D. candidate in Hispanic Languages and Literatures. His research focuses on Latin American and Latino/a/x print and visual cultures, from the nineteenth through the twentieth century. He is specifically interested in questions of nationalism and transnationalism, migration and movement, archival recovery, and intermediality. His dissertation entitled “At the Crossroads of Text and Image: A History of the Transnational Illustrated Press” recovers a series of US-based illustrated magazines that theoretically and materially conceived a transnational community among media producers and consumers across the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe, from the 1890s through the 1920s. His research has been supported by fellowships and grants from UC Berkeley's Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Global, International & Area Studies, and Graduate Division, as well as by extramural institutions, including the American Antiquarian Society, the Bibliographical Society of America, and the Huntington Library.
